Bread Billing System
A full billing and invoicing system for a bakery business
A MERN-stack billing application for bakeries, with role-based logins for admins and cashiers, PDF invoice generation, and a searchable customer database.
Built to simulate a real point-of-sale workflow for a small bakery, this system manages staff accounts, product catalogs, and customer billing end-to-end.
- Small bakeries often rely on manual, paper-based billing with no digital record of sales.
- There's no easy way to separate admin tasks (hiring staff, managing products) from day-to-day cashier work.
A React front end talks to an Express REST API, which handles authentication, product/customer data, and PDF invoice generation, all backed by MongoDB.
Cashier logs in and selects items for a customer's order

Server validates the JWT and processes the order
Order and customer details are saved to MongoDB
Server generates a PDF invoice for the transaction
Cashier can view, print, or share the generated bill
Key Architectural Decisions
- ✓Implemented role-based access so admins and cashiers see different dashboards and permissions.
- ✓Built an invoicing flow that itemizes purchases and generates a downloadable/printable PDF bill.
- ✓Added a customer database to store contact details and speed up repeat orders.
- ✓Used JWT-based authentication to keep accounts secure.
- Designing role-based permissions early on made it much easier to add features for admins vs. cashiers later.
- Generating clean PDF invoices from dynamic data required careful formatting and testing across edge cases.
- A full MERN CRUD app is a great way to practice structuring a REST API around real business logic.
